Superb matric results
THE ability to adapt to change and maintain a dedicated routine are the qualities that led Empangeni High School’s (EHS) Irfaan Sabat to nine matric distinctions and a fifth place finish in the King Cetshwayo district.
With an overall aggregate of 90.2%, the 2020 headboy achieved the following results - English 87%, Afrikaans 80%, mathematics 95%, life orientation 95%, accounting 92%, history 93%, information technology 95%, life sciences 83% and physical sciences 92%.
‘I am content with my results and was confident heading into the final examinations, as what you put in, is what you get out,’ said Irfaan.
He will study computer engineering at TUKS this year and aims to open his own global corporate research and development company one day.
‘Studying from home takes huge discipline and tests one’s commitment towards their goals,’ he said.
Miso Xongwana, also of EHS, brought home eight distinctions, with Mandy Mabaso securing seven, while Noluthando Ntuli and Jody Motala earning no fewer than six.
Miso will study accounting sciences at the University of Pretoria this year.
EHS class of 2020 scored a 95% pass rate, of which 154 (72%) were Bachelor passes, 51 (23%) were Diploma passes and eight (4%) were Higher Certificate passes.
In total, the school achieved 283 distinctions. eShowe High School’s Esethu Mhlongo was the 2020 dux recipient and she brought home six distinctions.
‘I am speechless, overjoyed and have a number of mixed emotions about my results,’ said Esethu.
She will study chartered accountancy at the University of Johannesburg.
‘Well done to the matric class of 2020 and the educators on their achievement. We achieved a
100% pass rate and only by the grace of God managed to reach the end,’ said eShowe High School Principal Eduard Curtis.
