N2 clean-up yields bags of environmental success
NO fewer than 32 loads of garden refuse and 56 bags of trash were collected along the N2 that runs through Pongola during a clean-up organised by AfriForum last Saturday.
Members, volunteers and several businesses helped to trim trees and bag the rubbish before removing it using tractors and trailers.
‘The aim of the project was to jump in to prevent our town from continually going backwards.
‘Many holiday-makers pass through on this route and it is important for us as residents to keep it looking neat and to create a good impression,’ said AfriForum Pongola branch chairman, Alton Vlok.
‘While our fight-and-build strategy puts pressure on state entities to do their work, we can’t afford to wait for them to execute their responsibilities so we stepped in.
‘We thank everyone who assisted us,’ said Vlok.
