First locally produced TV series launched

IT was a first for Zululand when a locallyproduced TV series was launched on the DSTV channel, Soweto TV last Thursday.

Despite the devastating coronavirus pandemic, local youngsters from the rural heart of eMatshana have been hard at work, writing and producing local content for the national audience.

Not only are they telling their stories, but flying the Zululand flag high across the nation.

The 14-episode drama series entitled Imizwa the feelings is written and directed by local music composer Vernon Ngubane who saw a gap in the industry and went for it.

In the series, the local director featured only local talent, from actors to the crew.

‘We shot every scene in the area because we wanted it to be a proudly Zululand initiative.

‘It’s a story of betrayal, about a man robbed coming out of jail and finding out he has lost everything he had left behind,’ said Vernon.

The aim is to expose local talent, write local stories and show them to the world.

This is the group's first project, but has been welcomed by the South African TV audience and is enjoying even more hits on YouTube.

Zululanders can follow the interesting story line every Thursday at 9pm on Soweto TV.
