Kia SA launches new Sonet crossover

Kia has expanded its local line-up with the introducti­on of the all-new Sonet urban compact SUV that marks the brand’s entry model into the B-SUV stable.

Available in two trim levels - LX and EX - the new Sonet is 4 120mm long, while spawning a wheelbase that measures 2 500mm and can be had in one-tone exterior colours - Glacier White, Steel Silver, Gravity Grey, Aurora Black, Beige Gold, Intense Red and Intelligen­cy Blue.

The interior is fitted with an 8.0-inch HD touchscree­n infotainme­nt system that lurks a reverse camera with dynamic guidelines.

The system allows Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivi­ty. There is also a digital instrument cluster.

Powering the new Kia Sonet is a 1.5-litre MPI petrol engine with 85kW and 144Nm.

Customers have a choice between a six-speed manual gearbox or a CVT box.

The LX variant comes fitted with 8.0-inch infotainme­nt with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote central locking, airconditi­oning, Bluetooth, front and rear electric windows and electric mirrors, plus six speakers.

It rides on 15-inch steel wheels and still adds a height-adjustable driver’s seat, automatic headlamp activation, rear-view camera plus a combinatio­n of artificial leather and cloth seat trim.

The EX, meanwhile, adds rear park distance control, leather steering wheel and gear knob, silver skid plates, 16-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, side repeater lamps and front fog lights.

Safety comes from Electronic Stability Control, ABS with EBD, Hill-start Assist Control, dual front airbags plus ISOFIX childseat anchoring points.

The four-model Sonet range kicks off at R264 995 for the 1.5 LX Manual.
