MOUNTAIN bikers' endurance levels were put to the test on Sunday as they took to the off-road terrain, tight crevices, and muddy and wet sections of the 10km, 25km and 50km tracks at the annual Mtunzini Race in the Shade.
The highlight of the ride, which started and ended at the Mtunzini Country Club, was the 60m floating bridge.
A total of 112 riders completed the 25km route, which saw Colby Zeiler take top honours in 1.05.39.
But all eyes were on the tightly raced 50km distance, which attracted 97 entries.
The leaders set a great pace, with the lead changing numerous times during the distance, which resulted in an exciting sprint finish.
Lourens de Beer dropped a gear and disappeared to take top spot in 2.04.31, with Rudolph Pretorius having to settle for second place with a time of 2.05.32.
Just behind Pretorius was third-placed Craig White who clocked 2.05.35.
