ESikhaleni youngster opens online radio station

- Muzi Zincume

GRADE 11 Umdlamfe High School pupil Nduduzo Mchunu has launched his own online radio station.

‘eSikhaleni Youth Radio' has been up and running since last month.

'I love radio broadcasting and regard myself as a talented radio presenter,’ Nduduzo said.

Last month, the 18-yearold youngster was elected president of the school representative council (SRC), and he has been involved in community upliftment programmes.

He urges all youngsters to distance themselves from social ills.

‘As a young person, I like to make a difference and empower my community, especially people my age. Last year I launched an anti-drug campaign but, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic and schools alternating classes, I had to close it down. I realised some pupils would have been excluded from the campaign.

I always dreamed of opening my own radio station, and now I have done so

‘The campaign will be on hold until school returns to normal.

'As a young person, I have ambitions and dreams that I believe are achievable as long as I am focused and determined.

‘Before opening my online radio station, I visited various local stations to see how they work. UYFM and Icora FM played a significant role in making me understand how radio operates.

‘They equipped me with knowledge and made me more passionate about radio presenting. I always dreamed of opening my own radio station, and now I have done so.' Nduduzo said he is using his cellphone and laptop in his studio at present.

‘I was a TV presenter at 1KZNTV on the show My Jukebox, and that motivated me to pursue presenting.

'I have been nominated for the Live Your Dream SA Awards in the Best Presenter category.'
