Reminiscing about the magic of yesteryear

-

Do you remember the time when only one household in an area owned a television set?

As a youngster, did you own a song book, or perhaps you have a childhood scar from playing on a go-cart called ingidla?

If you remember the magic of playing soccer on the dusty fields, get ready to go back in time this Heritage Month.

Journalist, theatre producer and performer Wellington Makwakwa will take us back to those magic moments with theatre production Magic in the Past to be showcased at the Bon Hotel Empangeni on Saturday, 4 September from 7pm.

The cultural music explosion will feature the award-winning University of Zululand choir, and will be directed by multi-talented director, composer and actor Bongani Ngcobo of Indabuko African Orchestra fame.

‘We've had a heart-breaking year, from the devastating coronavirus pandemic to the recent violent unrest. I believe it’s time we take a break and look back at the magic we once had.

‘Our childhood was nothing but magical - from walking to buy vetkoek to playing indigenous games, playing house and celebrating Christmas,' said Wellington.

‘We depended on one another, and spread love wherever we went, but all that has been lost. I hope to bring that magic back, even if it’s just for one night.'

Tickets are available at R150 at La Fusion Chefs Restaurant or Classic Café, or by phoning 078 2804727.

Only 100 seats are available, and proceeds will go to Wellington’s Christmas with the Gogos and Christmas Biscuit Drive charity funds.
