Groenewald puts in five-star shift for KCD
WITH incredible bowling figures of 5/5 off five overs, Charl Groenewald ensured Southern Natal would have had a miserable trip back home after being humiliated by King Cetshwayo District on Sunday.
The visitors actually looked okay at one stage in the KZN Premier League encounter played at Addison Park, with the total at 65/3.
But then the procession started, with wickets falling as often as power failures, with the final five sticks tumbling for just three runs as the southerners capitulated to 87 all out.
KCD’s bowling force all posted excellent figures: Jordan Graven 4.0.10.1; Steph Joubert 6.1.19.2; and Francois Fourie 6.0.16.2.
However, the man who did the damage was Groenewald, his deadly accuracy mesmerising the middle and tail-end batters who, for some reason, decided to swing at everything rather than play out the remaining overs sensibly and accumulate runs slowly.
Perhaps they were in a hurry to get off the extremely hot and dry sports ground where the outfield was particularly slow.
Nevertheless, much like with the Proteas and New Zealand, when the King Cetshwayo openers came out, it looked like a different track.
In no time at all, skipper Jason Redinger (29) and his partner Steph Joubert had wiped out half the target, reaching 47 before Redinger fell to a spectacular caught-andbowled by Sanolin Pather – an act of selfpreservation if ever there was one, as the ball threatened to take his head off.
Joubert was there at the close with 49 runs off 43, along with Simon Savides, 15 not out off 20 balls; the objective reached in 15.2 of the 50 allotted overs.
