Hygiene drive needs support

- Conelia Harry

VOLUNTEERS at local non-profit organisation, Walk in Faith, are rallying support for its monthly campaigns and annual Dignity Drive and Winter Warmth Campaign at the end of May.

Founder Merinda Ackerman said, in addition to the ongoing community support, they've also been called on to assist with disaster relief.

‘Disaster can strike at any time, and for some of our beneficiaries, losing their jobs or falling on tough times can happen suddenly. Through the generosity of our communities and businesses, we are able to assist where we can,' said Ackerman.'

‘Just this week, several families were left devastated by the flooding and we had to respond with donations of mattresses, household items, linen and clothing.'

‘Walk in Faith is also running several monthly projects including sanitary collections for school girls, lunch packs for school children and food hampers.'

‘We have over 300 beneficiaries for our Dignity Drive, which has been running for several years. This aims to make a difference in the lives of children whose families have fallen on tough times.'

Ackerman said the campaign strives to help those who cannot afford hygiene necessities, and helps to restore their dignity by ensuring they have essential items to maintain good hygiene.

‘No personal details will be given to anyone to protect the privacy and safety of the children, but ages are included and a name list has been compiled,' she said.

‘This can also be a challenge between companies, encouraging workplaces to get involved as a team building exercise that will help the community.’
