Seven-seater Suzuki Ertiga is updated

- Val van der Walt

The line between MPVs and SUVs has become somewhat blurred, with car makers often slapping a few plastic bits and pieces onto obvious people carriers and re-naming them SUVs.

One MPV which is not pretending to be something it's not, is the Suzuki Ertiga and it has just undergone a facelift.

Suzuki Auto South Africa decided to tinker with the range, and now it's only available in GA and GL trim.

The main addition to the entry-level GA model is rear parking sensors as standard equipment.

This is on top of existing features found across the range, including electric windows, manual air conditioning, ventilated cup holders, central locking, and LED tail wlamps.

As the new, top-end entry in the Ertiga line-up, the GL now comes with styling accents previously found on the GLX, such as 15-inch alloy wheels and chrome accents on the front grille.

It is also equipped with a seven-inch infotainment system which is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible.

This new screen means the Suzuki Ertiga GL comes fitted with a rear-view camera.

A multifunction steering wheel with cruise control has also been added, and the automatic spec features hill assist.

Rounding out the package on the GL is a new centre armrest and storage box between the front seats, with additional vents for rear air conditioning, as well as an extra 12V charging socket.

As before, powering the Ertiga range is a 1.5 litre, normally aspirated petrol engine.

It is good for 77kW and 138Nm, with Suzuki claiming a combined fuel consumption figure of 6.2 litres per 100km.

The manual version has five forward ratios, while the auto comes with a fourspeed, torque converter gearbox.
