Karate stars make the national grade

AT the annual SKISA (Shotokan Karate Internatio­nal

SA) banquet held in

Durban on Saturday, the Richards Bay

Kenkyo Dojo was recognised for outstandin­g achievemen­ts. Sensei Christo Riekert was awarded with his Godan (5th Dan black belt) and was also bestowed the Shihan title. Sempai John Bester received his Shodan (1st Dan black belt) and earned the Dojo High Flyer Award for the best student.

Shihan Christo is head of the Kenkayo Dojo and, during his 37 years of karate experience, has trained with some of the world’s great Japanese masters.

Christo had the honour of visiting Japan to take part in the 2013 World Championsh­ips.

His word to aspiring karate students is to follow his lead in always aiming for higher achievemen­ts, work hard and never quit.
