FELIXTON College's Leandre Dirkse van Schalkwyk (Grade 9) has a passion for conservation and saving the planet.

Leandre was recently recognised by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife honorary officers, for her outstanding commitment to conservation in the Zululand region.

She was awarded a certificate of recognition for 'dedicated and conscientious service as a junior honorary officer', and was also handed the prestigious Drummond Densham Junior Honorary

Officer of the Year award for 2022.

Her father Ettiene said Leandre has been passionate about conservation from a very young age.

“I am very proud of her achievements and dedication to her service,” he said.

Leandre plans to continue in her steadfast conservation ways. When she turns 16, she can obtain full membership and transition to a senior honorary officer.

"We are exceptionally proud of Leandre, and her continued efforts to honour the environment."
