Jordan does demolition job

- Dave Savides

NEILL Jordan got the job done almost single-handedly as eShowe District scored a massive 166-run win over their King Cetshwayo District opponents in their Weber Cup clash at the Mally Abraham Oval on Sunday.

Boosted by the return of a few top players, eShowe had little difficulty in gliding to an easy victory after winning the toss and electing to bat.

After the first two wickets fell cheaply, eShowe consolidated as Richard Peter (38) and Jordan (54 including six boundaries) piled on the runs.

Brian Carpenter fell just short of his half century, his 47 runs also including six blows to the ropes.

A bright 18 off 14 balls from Matthew Engelbrecht accelerated the total to 229.

The bowlers shared the wickets with Notha Simelane claiming three scalps while Philane Cuambe, Aphiwe Ngema and Sfundo Dludla each bagged two poles.

Wickets tumbled as quickly as load shedding power cuts when KCD took to the crease. This was thanks to the striking clout of paceman Jordan, who claimed no fewer than seven wickets in 7.2 overs, conceding just 27 runs in the process – mostly from snicks and edges.

Only Sphelele Sibiya (17) and Mthokozisi Nkwanyana (22) managed to withstand the Jordan barrage as the visitors crumbled to 63 all out in just 15.2 overs for an early drive home.
