NPO gives hope to little ones

A BIG-HEARTED collaboration will see underprivileged children receiving Christmas gifts this year.

The Linzwa Foundation NPO has partnered with several organisations and companies for a massive toy drive.

Founder of Linzwa Foundation, Lindiwe Dube said disadvantaged families have to prioritise food over toys.

“Most families survive on grants which makes it impossible for them to buy toys for their young ones," she said.

“Every child deserves a smile regardless of the family's affordability.

“We believe it takes a small thing like a toy to make a child happy."

She said that is why they partnered with Zululand Yacht Club, through their entertainment officer Michele Banwell, for the toy and clothing drive.

"We started this programme late last month, and on Friday went to Khandisa Clinic in KwaDlangezwa where we donated toys and clothing to 45 children and their parents," said Dube.

"We were supported by BB Bakeries, Dice (Do I Care Enough?), Ava McCains, Chante-Lee Pekoba, and Tamara Chetty.

"We believe it is imperative to make the kids happy at an early age to ensure they grow up happy. We are of the view that this would assist these children in not losing their self-esteem when they compare themselves with others from well-established families,” she said.

“Keeping our children happy could be the best solution to prevent bullying in schools."

She added that they are collecting toys and clothing to donate to 137 children on Tuesday, 20 December, and preparing to host a Christmas event for children from disadvantaged families on Christmas Day.
