Tablers hook the big ones

- Larry Bentley

MANY new friends and memories were made at the eShowe Round Table annual Phobane Fishing Bonanza held over the weekend.

With a good balance of first-timers to Goedertrouw dam, serious local anglers and old eShowe and Zululand social anglers returned to their favourite stomping grounds.

William Swift was the big winner with a 4.3kg bass, giving him the R20 000 cash prize sponsored by Juan Bornman of SCS Plant and Logistics.

In the ladies' category DaniellaLeigh Serrao took first place with a 1.45kg bass, while Tyler Kleinenburg won the junior prize with his 2.16kg bass.

In the barbel category, Christopher Viljoen worked hard for his R10 000 first prize, sponsored by Isibindi and Aquacon, with a monster 13.52kg specimen.

It proved to give him a tough time with all his line being 'spooled' off his reel, but he somehow managed to 'hand line' the monster in to the boat.

Tracy Lombard was the leading lady with her 4.34kg barbel.

Safety at the dam was paramount and Black Hawk Security made sure no security issues were experienced with many camping along the banks of the dam.

eShowe Round Table thanked all sponsors and entrants for their support, and said they look forward to next year's event with a few improvements and surprises in the pipeline.
