Spending on repairs and maintenanc­e praised

THE City of uMhlathuze came out shining, taking home top prizes at the 2022 KZN Municipal Excellence Awards held in Durban on Wednesday.

“Dedication to service delivery, transparen­cy, and hard work are some of the factors that contribute­d to the City of uMhlathuze winning majority awards,” said Mayor Xolani Ngwezi.

He went on to challenge all City of uMhlathuze staff to serve the people with diligence, and to maintain a clean record of financial management.

The municipali­ty won a gold trophy and a certificat­e for Clean Audit Opinions for the 2020/21 financial year.

They won a second gold trophy and R500 000 for the O&M category (Allocation and Spending on Repairs and Maintenanc­e), and a third gold trophy and certificat­e for obtaining positive audit outcomes for financial and non-financial performanc­e at a district level.

The city was also awarded gold for the best developed Integrated Developmen­t Plan (IDP).
