Red team has the blues at Felixton Ryder Cup
FELIXTON Country Club’s (FCC) inaugural version of the Ryder Cup played out over the weekend as the chairman's ‘Red Hot’ team took on the captain’s ‘Blue Steel’ team.
The chairman selected his squad of 12 golfers linked to Felixton Village, while the captain’s ‘Internationals’ were drawn from a dozen players from Empangeni and Richards Bay.
The tournament consisted of three 18-hole competitions, all played as matchplay, so there were 24 points up for grabs.
Saturday's formats were betterball in the morning and drawn foursomes in the afternoon, while on Sunday the players were ranked in order of their handicap and played singles in matchplay (all players off a scratch).
The weekend saw some super golf being played, with the ‘visitors’ ending as overall victors.
More importantly, it was an exhibition of Felixton Country Club spirit and this will definitely become a permanent fixture on the FCC calendar.
