Party outlines manifesto

- Muzi Zincume

THE biggest challenge facing the country is leaders failing to maintain the existing infrastructure.

This was one of the views shared by Rise Mzansi KZN premier candidate Nonkululeko HlongwaneMhlongo during an exclusive interview with the ZO.

“We have not created new channels for people living in rural areas to access clean running water.

“We need to eradicate informal settlements in our province and conduct a land audit because we are not running short of land in KZN.”

She said land must be developed and landowners compensated, with infrastructure construction a priority.

Another focal point for her party is ageism in the workplace.

“This age restriction prevents people from accessing education and business findings, it has to be scrapped,” said Hlongwane-Mhlongo.

“It is the duty of government to ensure citizens can put food on the table either by being employed or by creating their own employment.”

Commenting on safety, she said police need to respond proactively to crime, with more investment in resources.

“We need enough personnel at each station. Cops must be well-equipped and paid to prevent the loss of case dockets and corruption in our police stations,” she said.

Discussing healthcare, Hlongwane-Mhlongo said digitising medical files and cutting waiting time by 80% was a priority, while ensuring sufficient nursing staff are available.

On the issue of cross-border crime, she said everything centred on corruption.

“We need to have strong police leadership in the province and enough resources at the border gate. Police need to be paid accordingly to avoid them from taking bribes,” she said
