With Sisanda and friends
THE intimacy of the spoken word will be on display when poet Sisanda Mthethwa (20) hosts the Poetic Spectrum of Sisanda in July.
The special event will be held at Amaqhawe Restaurant in Richards Bay on Saturday, 6 July.
It will feature top acts such as Hloniphani Art, Mr Music, Imbongi Yosizi, Triple S, Inhloko Nesxhanti, band Note Motion, and many others.
“It’s about giving the audience what they want and need, as well as sharing my new work with them while also sharing a platform with my fellow poets and other performers," said Sisanda.
This emerging poet started reciting poetry when she was in Grade 3, and started writing her own in Grade 5.
"It all began with me being chosen to represent the school in public speaking, and soon I wrote my first drama script," she recalled.
"In 2018 I was able to write my first English poem and teachers loved it. From there I started performing for an audience, and it was a surprise to see how people loved my work after my performance. I knew then that it was something I wanted to do with my life.
"I was motivated by poet Zamoh Cofi who gave me gigs to showcase my talent. My best moment was when Lwarh Ndlunkulu commented on my TikTok video," she said.
From there, Sisanda started performing on big stages, working with the likes of multi award-winning poet Magcwabe Imbongi.
Sisanda has performed alongside home-grown funnyman Sdudla Soqobo at Thursday Comedy Night. She has also worked at top events such as Sabela Africa, Ghost Nation, and at Colourful Friday by Ghetto in Durban. For more information about the event, contact
