Sisteplant: Cell 4.0: the key to the smart factory
“At Sisteplant we are promoting, among companies from the automotive sector, a strategic vision of the transformation towards the factory of the future, which is realised through the Cell 4.0”, said Alfonso Ganzabal, managing director of the Spanish engineering company.
Aclear example of this approach is the Automotive Smart Factory (ASF), developed as a result of the alliance between AIC Automotive Intelligence Center and Sisteplant, in order to offer the sector a space/laboratory in which they familiarise themselves with and implement Smart Manufacturing concepts, before deploying them in their own facilities. Ganzabal claims that Cell 4.0 is based on a state of affairs that is more common than you would think in the sector: biased knowledge, improvement actions based on trial and error; the development of inertia and paradigms that are not always certain; not always working on what is important; acting on secondary causes, not at the source; using incomplete information based on critical variables,
Tienen pendiente el reto de construir su visión”, concluye Ganzábal. with analytic systems that are poorly structured or objective; possessing knowledge that is very dependent on people; a tendency to be characterised by a high reactive component; and suffering “painful” industrialisations, among other features. To alleviate these deficiencies, Cell 4.0 works across three axes: technology, digitalisation and people, to achieve deep knowledge on the process. This knowledge will bring the guarantee of quality and the realisation of “Zero Defects”, anticipation of the emergence of problems, unitary traceability, skills for people to be able to take decisions, and robust manufacturing with minimum variability. “The automotive sector has been a pioneer in the application of concepts geared towards the factory of the future. Large groups are leading a strategic vision, and SMEs, in many cases, are still making experimental and non-integrated implementations. The challenge of building their own vision awaits”, concludes Ganzabal.
