AGFRA E INDUSTRIAS ALEGRE COMENTAN ALGUNOS ASPECTOS DE INTERÉS EN LA AUTOMOCIÓN VALENCIANA AGFRA AND INDUSTRIAS ALEGRE COMMENT ON SOME TOPICS OF INTEREST IN THE VALENCIAN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY
Constant flexibility and adaptation capacity. Increasing importance of electrification, but without neglecting other aspects. Ford continues to be key, but Valencian firms such as Agfra and Industrias Alegre reflect the wealth and capacity of innovative automotive resources in the Community of Valencia.
Naturally, Ford’s driver effect continues to be fundamental and in this regard, José Vicente Aguilar, CEO of Agfra, regarding the recent evolution of the Valencia factory, states that “we work in the Ford Almussafes environment through industrialisation and automation of its Tier1 suppliers, some of which are playing an important role in the production of its hybrid models and battery assembly. Undoubtedly, the future of vehicle production is undergoing a change of disruptive dimensions in which it is vital that plants are present. Our assessment is therefore very positive, as well as the wish that it be a first step in the electrification of the plant. Aguilar clarifies, however, that “we are currently at a very low point in the cycle and therefore expectations are greatly influenced by very tough months that do not seem to improve in the short term either. In the medium and long term, the competitiveness of the plant and the excellent team that make it up should be
Mónica Alegre, commercial director at Industrias Alegre, says that “we are in a transition towards another type of mobility and the combustion engine, although it did not disappear completely, it is not going to be the mass motorisation of the future. This transformation can no longer be stopped and now the

Throughout its history, Ford has been at the forefront of industry transformation. And in this regard, the manufacture of hybrid cars accelerates the process of transformation to the car of the future. The assembly of batteries will represent a very important step in the consolidation of the Plant since this assembly will be a differentiator in the competitiveness of Almussafes compared to other competitors or other Ford group manufacturing plants. Regarding the current situation, Alegre underlines that “at the moment it is a necessity for suppliers that Ford recovers its production levels. We come from a year in 2020 in which a state of alarm over Covid-19 paralysed the sector throughout Europe and we have started 2021 with the semiconductor crisis. To manufacture each new model that comes out on the market, suppliers must make large investments and in some cases even plants dedicated exclusively to those models. If this situation continues much longer, the suppliers will have to restructure in a dramatic way”. Industrias Alegre is not only found in the Community of Valencia. “We also have business units in Poland and Romania. We are immersed in a global strategic plan and that has already paid off by having projects with other OEMs such as Skoda”, points out Mónica Alegre. José Vicente Aguilar (Agfra) comments that “we work with the majority of OEMs, as we say, through various Tier1s, of which we are considered a strategic supplier, which leads us to accompany them in their deployment of technology wherever they need us, designing and building projects on the five continents”. Regarding the possibilities of the Mobility Innovation VLC project at the service of the automotive industry and sustainable mobility in the Community of Valencia, Mónica Alegre, also president of the Valencian cluster, points out that “this project developed and led by AVIA is a great opportunity for companies in Community of Valencia, directly for automotive companies and indirectly for other mainly technological companies, to develop systems that allow us to adapt our factories to the mobility requirements of the future. We have participated in one of the projects that have arisen from the MiV,

También es cierto que hay factores decisivos como el apoyo de involving the Battery Pack, together with four more AVIA associated companies and the Polytechnic University of Valencia, whose main objective is to carry out a demonstrator pilot of a battery pack for electric vehicles, closely linked to the evolution of the electric vehicle. At Agfra, José Vicente Aguilar states that “we see MiV very positively and we have supported it since its inception. The region, thanks to its location, high level of human capital and great experience in overcoming complex challenges, has all the necessary ingredients to be able to promote and successfully develop this initiative. It is also true that there are decisive factors such as the support of the manufacturers, among others, that will be key to this and that only time will tell. Mónica Alegre knows the PERTE Ecomóvil23 very well. “Industrias Alegre is one of the companies driving this project. What began as an initiative in which we had five companies among which we found a multinational group, family companies from the Community of Valencia and some SMEs, has become a
Ecomóvil23 represents a great opportunity for Spain to accelerate the economic recovery of the sector and, something much more important, not to be left behind in competitiveness, and technological and productive development by other countries”. José Vicente Aguilar adds that “we think it is a very good initiative. The companies that make it up are excellent and if interests are aligned and it is executed in a coordinated manner, it can be a really important driver hub”. Aguilar believes that it is essential that we do not lose objectivity and that we understand that improving competitiveness does not come through electrification, digitisation and industry 4.0, among others, which are essential components but they are points on which everyone is focused across the globe today. Perhaps it would be more productive to be able to attract investments in semiconductors or in niches that are further away from the spotlight, but that are intensive in knowledge and not so much in labour. In the end, in my humble opinion, the important thing is not knowing where the ball is now, but where it will be on the next play. Finally, the Industrias Alegre director concludes by commenting that “our Community is highly dependent on this sector, which accounts for 10% of the its GDP. The Administration has the obligation to protect and promote the industrial network of the Community. And for this, it should commit to longterm, sustainable projects with a strong technological emphasis. To ensure success, it should be supported by companies that are capable of leading the tough demands that this sector represents”.
