“There will not be a second chance like the one we have now to accelerate the speed of change”
I am still active, helping to grow a company like Silence, a leader in sales of electric motorcycles in Spain in 2020. As well as enjoying the possibility of offering my experience to other companies. I am concerned about the future because we are in the midst of a change in mobility models, which must be decarbonised and inclusive. The speed of change is in full acceleration, accentuated by Covid-19 and I think that in Spain we are losing some speed. If we look at the sales of electric vehicles or plugin hybrids, we see that they account for more than 15% of total sales in Europe and will soon reach 20%. Neither the sales nor production figures for this type of vehicle in Spain come close to these percentages. Therefore, we are losing influence on the continent. In Europe, 22 battery factories are being built and the same is happening with electric motors or power electronics. In Spain, at the moment, there are few decisions and, therefore, I think that a significant process of acceleration is needed in order not to miss the train. There is not much time and I think there will not be a second chance like the one we have now to accelerate the speed of change. We need a very powerful country strategy, with many people involved, and if we want to save the automobile industry, many things have to be done. I know that many people are working, but it is not enough to work hard, you have to come up with solutions.
