A new hybrid motor and increased battery assembly
FORD HAS ALSO CONFIRMED AN ADDITIONAL INVESTMENT OF 5.2 MILLION EUROS
In March, Ford announced that it is continuing to invest in an electrified future for its operations in Almussafes (Valencia), with the new 2.5-litre Duratec hybrid engine that will be manufactured at its engine plant from late 2022 and the increased battery assembly capacity.
Today is another step in Ford’s electrification journey, providing a bridge to a future of fully electric passenger vehicles, and demonstrating our continued commitment to our manufacturing operations in Valencia, where we have invested around $3 billion since 2011 (approximately 2.5 billion euros), “said Kieran Cahill, Vice President of Manufacturing for Ford Europe. Starting in late 2022, the Valencia motor plant will manufacture the 2.5-litre Duratec hybrid engine for Europe, which equips the Kuga PHEV, as well as the Kuga, Galaxy and S-MAX Full Hybrid models. The 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine is the first of its kind to be built by Ford in Europe and reinforces the importance of PHEV and fully hybrid vehicles in Ford’s current and future range of vehicles in Europe. The 2.5-litre Duratec hybrid engine -currently being built at Ford’s engine plant in Chihuahua, Mexico- will be manufactured in Valencia alongside the 2.0- and 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engines. Ford has also confirmed an additional investment of 5.2 million euros to support the increase in battery assembly capacity in Valencia, following an initial investment of 2.24 million euros announced in January 2020, with the launch of the installation in September of last year. The additional capacity is required to support increased demand in current and future electrified vehicle production. The passenger car portfolio evolves as Ford moves toward a 100% Electric future. At the start of this year, Ford announced that it is investing at least $22 billion globally in electrification, nearly double the previous electric
