Spa Vinotherapie Caudalie Marqués de Riscal
At the end of the nineteenth century, Mr. Camilo Hurtado de Amézaga, the fourth Marquis of Riscal, introduced a new way of making wine at his winery in the Rioja Alavesa region – a way based on a system used in France.thanks to that one move, the method ended up being used throughout the La Rioja wine region.
A century later, this same wine producer once again imported another pioneering way to apply the grape from the Bordeaux area: Vinotherapie. Thus, the Vinotherapie® Caudalie Marqués de Riscal Spa was born, a fundamental pillar of the “City of Wine:” an exclusive complex with a winery, a shop, two restaurants, a bar, and the Marqués de Riscal Hotel – A Luxury Collection Hotel.
The spa, a true temple of wellbeing, has a spectacular indoor heated swimming pool featuring jets of water, relaxation rooms, a hammam, Finnish sauna, jacuzzi, footbath, gymnasium, and a natural solarium with views of the vineyard.
The intense Tempranillo grape color of the pool’s walls gives way to the serene cedar and elegant teak that cover the walls of the treatment rooms. The vinotherapists, all of whom were trained in France, perform the rituals, treatments, barrel baths, couple massages, body wraps, manicures, pedicures, and exfoliations using grape essence, which cleans and invigorates the skin.this is the only spa in all of Spain run by Caudalie, which is famous for applying the virtues of the grapevine and grape, whose antioxidant properties have been recognized by doctors and surgeons from all over the world.
The spa, just like the hotel, bears the signature of the unmistakable Frank Gehry. He deserves credit for having created, with Marqués de Riscal, an architectural precedent that has led many other wineries in the region to innovate and take risks with buildings that have made the Rioja Alavesa wine area one of the most appealing in all the world. In order to be able to accommodate the growing number of hotel guests, 18 new rooms with spacious balconies were opened this year, and 9 of the existing rooms were equipped with a new terrace so that the unparalleled panoramic views of Elciego and the Sierra de Cantabria Mountain range can be enjoyed, as well as the beautiful colored sparkles of titanium on the outer shell of Gehry’s building.
Whether one is talking about wine creation, architecture, or vinotherapie, innovation and boldness were, are, and will continue to be hallmarks of the Marqués de Riscal brand.
