A LUXURY COLLECTION HOTEL

-

The good growth rate of the luxury sector in the Basque Country in recent years is being reflected by the opening of new high-end hotels, as well as by the investments being made for improvements and expansion by companies that are already well established. An example of that is the significant expansion that the iconic Marqués de Riscal Hotel has just undertaken, one of the two properties that The Luxury Collection chain has in the Basque Country. In 2006, Frank Gehry designed this spectacular hotel, divided into two buildings that are interconnected via a glass bridge: the Gehry Building –with 14 rooms, a library, two restaurants (one of which has been awarded a Michelin star), and a wine bar– and the Spa Wing, with 29 rooms and the Vinothérapie® Caudalie Spa area.

The success reaped over these years has prompted the expansion of the hotel, which has just opened 18 new rooms in the Spa Wing. Categorized as ‘premium spa rooms with a balcony,’ these guestrooms feature a surface area of 44 m2 and a loft-style design, an Italian marble bathroom with double sinks, a separate shower and bathtub, a spacious closet, and a private balcony with views of the Gehry Building, the mountains, and the medieval town of Elciego. To continue with the company’s firm determination to take care of the environment and promote sustainability, recyclable materials were used for the construction of the rooms, and a solar selfconsumption system has been installed on the roof which supplies energy to the Spa Wing building.

In addition to the construction of the 18 new rooms, nine of the 29 already existing ones in the Spa Wing have had a private terrace added. These rooms have been renamed “premium spa rooms with a terrace” and “Riscal suites with a terrace.”the suites have a surface area of 65 m2 and are designed in loft style with a large terrace that includes reclining chairs and a table with chairs to enjoy room service in the open air and in complete privacy.the interior of the sleeping chambers follows the same modern and refined style as the rest of the hotel, with a great presence of wood and leather and furniture by renowned designers.

The last big new aspect is the construction of AVIP meeting room with a capacity for up to 12 guests, prepared both to host executive meetings and wine tasting events. This modern conference room, bathed in natural light, has a large meeting table, an 80-inch TV and a 40-inch TV, a coffee corner, and a relaxation area with sofas.this new space joins the existing event rooms, located in the modern part of the winery and featuring a capacity to host up to 450 guests. These expansion works prove not only the good evolution of the high-end tourism sector in the region but also the extraordinary work done by Frank Gehry, whose titanium building attracts tourists from all over the world like a magnet.
