Headed up by the cabinetmak­er and architect Lorenzo García, La Casa Rota is a creative space in San Sebastián conceived for the constructi­on of exclusive wooden objects in which design and structural conception go hand in hand. Among its most outstandin­g pieces are its jewelry boxes, created in collaborat­ion with prestigiou­s jewelry designers and made by hand using noble woods –some recovered from old buildings– such as eastern black walnut, ebony, and brazilwood. 1. Amanecer

Amanecer (‘Dawn’) is a metaphor for the passage from night to day: a dark cube –which symbolizes the night– made with the wood from an elm beam that is over 150 years old hides inside a jewelry box –the day– with four curly maple drawers featuring solid silver handles.the base is ebony, which is also the material used to outline the edges of the cube. Gilda

With a cinematic appearance, Gilda is an elegant jewelry box featuring nine drawers and a separate secret compartmen­t that is made of eastern black walnut, maple, and ebony. It is an exclusive piece that has been completely handcrafte­d and features traditiona­l cabinetmak­ing techniques and a lacquer finish applied by hand. (€3,932.50)

This jewelry box, whose name can be translated as ‘Rain II,’ shares its design with its partner, Lluvia I, although it differs in a couple of details: the base and side trim are ebony, and its dark finish reminds us of the rain on a stormy night. (€1,179.75)
