'Dangerous' shopping centre plan denounced

AN OBJECTION claiming that Almoradí town hall's modification to a project to install a shopping centre could endanger people's safety has been lodged by the anti-corruption protest group, 'defence of the farmland'.
The plan presented by a private company has been on public display since August 22.
It involves constructing buildings, roads, homes and a commercial centre in an area called El Saladar, which was classified as being at risk of flooding by the regional flood prevention plan (PATRICOVA).
Group spokesman Moises Cruz alleged that the project infringes several pieces of legislation.
"The risk of flooding is high; the danger of flooding makes the intended constructions morally unacceptable, as well as completely illegal," he claimed.
"We are asking the town hall and regional and national governments to stop this going ahead because it poses a permanent risk to people and families living in Almoradí and adjacent municipalities."
Sr Cruz claimed the construction of the commercial centre would be a 'catastrophe' for residents' safety, as 'it would leave them defenceless against flooding, as well as destroying a place that is unique for the quality of its traditional farmland'.
"If the authorities do not take action, they will also be taking responsibility for putting whole families at risk," he asserted.
