Monica does it again!
The female president of Spain's Círculo de Empresarios has never been known for her political correctness and she has been in hot water again this week after stating that, as a businesswoman, she prefers to employ women aged between 25 and 45 to avoid any problem of them falling pregnant.
Mónica Oriol, who has headed the organisation since April 2013 when she became the first woman to hold the position, is herself the mother of six children.
She comes from a long line of renowned Spanish businessfolk (her grandfather was head of an important electricity company during Franco's era, her father is wellknown architect Miguel del Oriol and her uncle was president of Iberdrola) and she has been married twice. Her second husband is Alejandro Aznar, whose family are involved in shipping and bodegas.
Soon after taking her position as head of the Círculo (which is the national organisation for the promotion of free business, private initiative and market economy, representing the biggest companies in Spain), she upset more than a few people by saying the minimum wage should be dropped for those without any training.
Her latest statement, which has been heavily criticised by feminist organisations in particular, was made during a round table discussion at the Latin American Business Council general meeting in Madrid last week.
"We are at risk of isolating women because of the number of regulations supposedly in their favour," she
added.
