accessible to the public.

Alicante provincial deputy for culture, Juan Bautista Rosello acknowledged, at the launch of the cycle, the amount of effort of all of the agencies involved in making the event possible. Not only so that people can enjoy quality music and performers, but to do so at a 'reasonable price'.

Alicante Actual will start on Thursday, October 23 and will feature two ' great international soloists': Spanish violinist Leticia Moreno and the French pianist Bertrand Chamayou, who will be performing a programme that revolves around the late 19th and early 20th century post romantic European works of Strauss, Granados, Penderecki as well as the premiere of a piece by Oliver Rappoport.

On November 18 Moonwinds, the group formed and directed by Valencian clarinettist Joan Enric Lluna will be performing works by César Cano and Joseph Horovitz that look at the music of François Couperin.

The last concert of the year will be on December 11 when the Plural Ensemble, under the baton of Félix Renggli, will perform pieces by Bach, Stravinsky, Carter, Ligeti and a commissioned work by Antonio Gómez Schneekloth.

The cycle will continue on January 13 when Ensemble Opus 23 focuses on the Second Viennese School. The ensemble will predominantly perform works by Webern and Berg as well as pieces by Cristóbal Halffter and Schnittke, plus the premiere of a composition by Guinovart.

February 13 will see the Italian soprano, Anna Caterina Antonacci, accompanied by the Heath Quartet and Donald Sülzen on piano, offering a programme that ' unites Italy and France through the lyricism of Respighi, the method of Tosti, the harmonic exquisiteness of Fauré, the freshness of Poulenc and Chausson's clarity of line'. The programme will also contain two 'eagerly anticipated' serenades by Wolf.

The Janácek Quartet will be performing a 'solid programme' of works by Dvorak and Bartók as well as the third string quartet by Jesús Villa-Rojo, which was commissioned by CNDM for last year's cycle, on March 24.

On April 14 the audience will be transported back to the Vienna of 1900, when the National Youth Orchestra of Spain, conducted by Ramón Tebar, will perform works by Strauss, Mahler, Berg, Schoenberg, Webern and Riehn.

The final concert will be on May 25, when the Camerata del Prado will perform '20th century classics' by Barber, Marco, Saiz and Glass.

A season ticket costing €64, which covers all performances, is available from www.instanticket.es until October 14.

Admission to individual concerts is €10. Tickets are available from local outlets and the venue box office two hours prior to the performance.
