Jalon Valley Help's Pink Coffee Morning

-

The Barbara Cartland of their annual fundraising events - took place at the Pensionistas' Club in Jalon on Saturday, October 4 in a haze of all shades of pink! The volunteers were dressed in it (including the men), the hall and the tables were dressed in it, and many of the visitors were, too! Visitors browsed the tables of gifts, jewellery, crafts, cards, books and preowned clothing - pink, of course! They also treated themselves to various cakes, scones, sausage rolls and biscuits with their cups of tea, or glasses of cava.

At midday, Barry Peters - in a pink shirt - started the entertainment and was very soon joined by the indefatigable line dancers, who proved to him in short order that they had a dance for almost every one of his numbers. The fact that everybody in the room knew all the words as well as he did just proves his ability to read the audience.

After the music, the President, Elaine Horton, thanked Barry for his generous gesture of waiving fees and expenses to increase our funds, and promised him a proper gig in next year's programme. She also thanked all the volunteers for the work they had done in order to put the event on, not just on the day, but the evening before and many weeks before that as well. To make the point, she presented Volunteer of the Month Certificates for October to three ladies from the Card Group based at Casa de Ánimo, in recognition of the hours they put in, week by week, preparing stock for the shops and the fundraising events.

The raffle was then drawn, with thanks to all those sponsors who had so generously provided the prizes, and the winners of the 'Name the Dog' competition, the 'Guess the Weight of the Cake' competition and the 'How Many Balloons in the Car' competition were presented with the dog, the cake and a bottle, respectively.

The day raised €1800. Well done everyone.

Having been reminded that the Christmas Bazaar will be held in the same venue on Saturday, November 22, from 10am to 2pm, everyone then made their way home.
