White Coast Golf at Benidorm

-

The fairways and greens were in excellent condition although the greens were perhaps a trifle slow and as is not unusual the bunkers were, in the main devoid of sand. There is a spring in the turf on the fairways at Levante which encouraged many of our older members to walk and they did not regret it. Dave Morris the marshall at the course made sure the games were flowing and there were no hold ups or slow play - well done Dave!

The golf was sponsored by David Kerr who provided some excellent prizes, almost all of which had a Scottish flavour or was it just the ribbons?

A new feature of the prize giving was the presentation of a separate ladies prize which was won by Gill Barrett with a score of 36 pts. As Gill also was 'Nearest the pin' on the 14th she was to be seen leaving the Club House quite laden down with her winnings. Nearest the pin on the 4th went to Peter Ketteringham.

The top prize and gold star went to one of our stalwarts, Rob Spray, who scored 38 pts with Roger Miller again featuring in second place on 37pts. Third after a count back was Brian Woodhouse also on 37 pts.

We should mention that in the absence of Ray Garbutt, Roger Jennings has stepped into the breach and is in the process of introducing an automatic scoring system via his laptop. Many thank Roger!

There was an unfortunate incident on the course when one of our members was struck rather hard by a golf ball. As a result our CEO took this opportunity to stress the necessity for golf liability insurance because, as he said and how true, 'accidents do happen'. Please don't ignore it.

We should also mention the arrival of yet another new member, Ian Holt, who has joined us by invitation of from another society. We trust he enjoyed his first meeting with White Coast Golf Club
