A run through nature

Runners of all ages enjoyed sport and the beauty of nature in the second edition of ' Correlimos' in San Pedro de Pinatar.

More than 500 participan­ts took part in the 13.4km, 7.6km and the short races for the younger generation 'Correlimos Kids'.

At 10am on Monday, October 6 the 'race' started at the port Marina de Las Salinas San Pedro del Pinatar following a route where the runners were able to enjoy the Salinas y Arenales de San Pedro nature reserve.

Participan­ts passed through natural beaches, salt lakes, and the windmills La Calcetera and Quintín, the mud baths of La Mota and the area of weir fishing (las encañizada­s) passing over different terrain such as asphalt, sand, earth and paved trails.

Juan Alonso was the first to cross the finishing line in the 13.4 km race with a time of 59 minutes, 30 seconds followed by Kevin Mondejar, Club CAT Horadada (51 mins 15 secs) and Alejandro Cases, of Grupeta Cadáver (51 mins 19 secs).

In the feminine category the winner for the second year running was Yvonne Morrison (1h 3 mins 27 secs), in second place Alicia Martínez (1h 9 mins 56 secs) followed by Pilar Hernández, of Ca Grupo Caliche One Telecon (1h 10 mins 5 secs).

In the 7,6km run Isidro Valderas, of Club CD Runtriton came in first (28 mins 5 secs), followed by David González (28 mins 17 secs) and Ivan López (28 mins 22 secs). The winner in the feminine 7.6km race was Paula Bonmati (33 mins 53 secs), followed by Eva María Buitrón (37mins 59 secs) of Club de Atletismo Torrevieja and Encarnació­n López.

At midday the stars were the younger ones competing in different age groups over a distance of 200, 800 and 1,200 metres in the port area of Marina de Las Salinas where the trophy presentati­on by the mayor Visitación Martínez took place. The sports councillor Pedro Luis Vera invited all the participan­ts to a 'caldero', a rice stew, on behalf of the fishermen's guild 'cofradía de pescadores'.
