Today we played Individual stableford which also qualified for the CL Golf League. We had a very good turn-out with 45 members and guests. A number of our "swallows" have now returned to Spain as the autumn weather is settling in giving us sunshine and comfortable temperatures in the mid twenties - ideal golfing weather.

In competitions there is a saying "Beware of the injured (or ill) golfer" as on quite a few occasions a player who has not been well, plays some wonderful golf. Is it because he concentrates more to make up for not being 100% fit or is it that he does not raise any expectations and therefore relaxes more and plays better? Or was it that you just had a great day and everything went well for you? Whatever the reason, congratulations to you, Jeff, on an excellent win!

Looking at the Consistency Chart, Eddie Rogers, the sponsor, could be in danger of winning his own prize and Jan, our Vice-Captain has now overtaken her partner John.

Friday, September 24 is the first match of the Costa Blanca Golf League.

Our team is playing Marina Alta Golf Society at La Sella Golf Course. We wish them well ! Summarising the results: We had five guests today, and Philip won the guest prize with 35 points. Nearest the pins: Hole 4 Jeff Murten Hole 8 John Webber Hole 11 Kate Hurley Hole 14 Greta Biersteker There were three twos today, from Greta Biersteker and Doris Shearman-Earp on holes 4 and Pierre Lesot on hole 14. They received the customary golf ball.

As for the main competition results:

5th place with 34 points off 8 hcp, Greta Biersteker

4th place with 34 points off 6 hcp, Dennis Pyman, beating Greta on the back 9

3rd place with 34 points off 20 hcp, Jan Boultbee, beating Dennis on the back 9

2nd place with 37 points off 16 hcp, Eddie Rogers

1st place with 41 points off 17 hcp, Jeff Murten
