- By James Parkes jparkes@cbnews.es

BREXIT, financial instability and extra taxes have not prevented tourists from spending even more on their Costa holidays so far this year.

The average spend per tourist visiting the Costa Blanca rocketed by 12.8% over the first 10 months of this year in comparison to the same period in 2015.

Figures released by the national statistics institute (INE) show the average spend per foreign tourist during their holiday in the Valencia region increased to €886.

As the average stay in the region is 10 days according to tourism figures, the daily spend is €88 per person,

In October alone, foreign tourists spent €678 million during their Costa holidays - a huge 23.8% more than in October 2015.

So far this year (until October), foreign holidaymakers have spent €6,6 billion in the region - 12.8% more than during the first 10 months of last year..

Once again, British holidaymakers are the big spenders (21.1% of the total figure), followed by Germans (14.6%) and the French.

As far as national figures are concerned, between January and October this year, foreign tourists spent €68,9 billion - 8.4% more than the same period in 2015.

No Brexit effect

Once again, figures show that Brexit has had no negative impact on British holidaymakers' spending during their Costa holidays as their average spend has increased by 9.3% so far this year.

Experts say that having had their holidays booked in advance and savings ready for this year, Brexit has not affected their spending. However, if the pound falls in 2017, spending is expected to do likewise.
