Summer in December

- News Staff Reporter

AN increase in temperatures and the gradual disappearance of the clouds that covered most of the Costa Blanca at the start of the week finally dissipated in Benidorm on Wednesday - just in time for the Inmaculada bank holiday.

The change in the weather has triggered an increase in last-minute hotel bookings for this weekend, as revealed by hotel union Hosbec.

However, association president Toni Mayor laments the fact that this week's festivities fell on Tuesday and Thursday, with the remaining days being business as usual.

This prompted many families to stay at home as children had to go to school in between, according to Sr Mayor.

Tourist previsions for the end of the week were looking up though, with increased bookings being made for between yesterday (Thursday) and Sunday. And of course, the weather has also played a vital role.

Hitting the beach in December

Wednesday morning already saw many visitors and residents taking to the sand - and, occasionally, the water.

Levante beach welcomed sunbathers and a few brave swimmers who defied the undoubtedly cold sea temperatures.

Meanwhile, bar and restaurant terraces were packed with customers enjoying a drink or snack in the sun as if it were still the summer.
