U3A Golf Moraira-Teulada

-

At Villaitana Golf, Benidorm on Tuesday, June 28

On June 28, U3A Golf MorairaTeulada played one of their regular games on the full length course, Levante, part of Villaitana Golf at Benidorm.

Our group has played this course before and it’s always a good test of accuracy and length. There are many bunkers to be negotiated or not (as in my case) but generally they are fair.

However, there is evidence of some deterioration in quality of sand and work is required. I’m sure the management will have this course in tip top condition before the Seniors Open later in the year.

The weather forecast was fine and sunny but about half way round the clouds rolled in and the temperature dropped. Unbelievably, this was then followed by heavy rain and for those without umbrellas received a good soaking. The majority of players were in buggies which helped to keep them dry. All our members finished their round although one stopped playing during the storm.

We lost some people before the day, due to illness etc., so only 18 players were there on the day. We played singles stableford, all scores net of handicap and there were some remarkably diverse scores. I think some members must have been playing a different course to the one I was on. The scores on the day were: 1st with a score of 44 points: Paul Westerman

2nd with a score of 41 points: Harvey Bourne

3rd with a score of 38 points: Ian Pearce

Nearest the pins: winners were Paul Sankey and Ralph Tomes.

Congratulations to all the winners.

This was our last game before the summer break. We return on the September 11 and the course will be Alenda

To play for the society you first need to be a member of the U3A Moraira/Teulada which meets on the first Monday of every month at the Salóns G.L, Avenida del Mediterráneo 32, Teulada at 10.30 am, except August.

All new members welcome whatever your standard of golf.
