Teulada-Moraira Fishing Club

(Formerly Lancora Fishing & Social Club)

On Wednesday June 27, we fished the 13th match of our summer league on sections A2/A3 of the Rio Jucar.

As we left Moraira, the temperature was 18 degrees and by the time we reached the river it had risen to 24 degrees and it was beautifully calm. There were quite a lot of fish showing at the surface for the first time this year and spirits were high for a good day.

Nine members assembled for the draw at 9am. The competition for the summer league champion is very close with three members being within a few points of each other. Vic Wills, one of the contenders, drew peg 1 for the second week in a row!

By the time the match began, at 9.45am, most of the fish, which had been showing at the surface, had disappeared, as is often the case. However, a few members decided to employ ‘up in the water’ tactics from the start, hoping that the fish were still feeding off the bottom. This did not seem to be the case as no fish were being caught by this method, whereas a few fish were being caught on the bottom during the first half hour.

Ray Craig’s misfortune of the last two weeks continued as he snapped the tip of his rod on the very first cast of the day! He was, however, rewarded for his persistence fishing up in the water by landing four fish during the match.

Elsewhere, fish continued to be taken by fishing the feeder on the bottom, though the number of fish caught from adjacent pegs varied greatly along the stretch. Vic Wills, who almost always switches to fishing up in the water as the match progresses, was having such success with the feeder that he stayed with this method and amassed a winning total for the second week running.

When the match ended at 2.45pm there were mixed feelings amongst our members. Some were delighted with their catch whilst others were left feeling frustrated having watched neighbouring anglers have a good day. The results were as follows: 1st Vic Wills (Special Ground Bait) Peg 1 (A3/8) 20 fish , 22.65 kilos.

2nd Steve Hartwell (The Valencian) Peg 1 (A3/2) 14 fish, 16.50 kilos

3rd Graham Sewell (Sooty) Peg 3 (A2/15)12 fish, 15.60 kilos

4th George Savell (The Gas Man) Peg 5 (A2/21) 13 fish, 14.53 kilos

5th Jacques Janssen (Special Corn)Peg 4 (A2/19) 6 fish, 6.68 kilos

6th Ray Craig, 7th Frank Povey, 8th Jeff Richards, 9th Ray Turvey

In total, 76 carp were caught for a total weight of 86.95 kilos.

Graham Sewell had a specimen carp of 4.5 kilos.
