New bus service to airport and Dénia hospital for the district

DIRECT coach links to Alicante airport and city are on the cards for Dénia, Jávea and Calpe – a godsend for Marina Alta residents who do not want to pay for parking when they travel or have no access to a car.

Line 4 on the district bus route, from Calpe, will stop in Altea on the way, then Alicante city, before terminating at the airport.

From Dénia, Line 6 will make stops in Pedreguer and Gata de Gorgos before heading to Alicante city and then the terminal.

And Line 7 will set off from Jávea, picking up passengers in Teulada and Benissa, and continuing to the provincial capital and the airport like the other two.

At present, without a car, residents and tourists in the Marina Alta have to catch a coach to Benidorm and then hang around the bus station, which is cold in winter, too hot in summer and generally uncomfortable, for a connection that may not arrive for several hours.

The regional government wants to get the district connected to the airport, conscious of how lack of access may be putting holidaymakers off choosing these towns as a destination in favour of others which are better linked.

All buses in the fleet will have a contactless payment system and a network providing information in real time about their location and route, and whether or not they are delayed, which can be accessed via a mobile phone App or a website.

Hospital bus links for all Marina Alta towns

All Marina Alta towns – however small – will have a bus service to the district hospital in Dénia once a new franchise is in place, the regional government has confirmed.

So far, remote villages such as Castell de Castells, Senija and Llíber have no transport links to the hospital, but within a few months will have between two and three a day.

With 10 main routes across the district and 12 buses running throughout the day, a total of 29 of the Marina Alta's 33 towns and villages will be connected.

The new coach concession will also provide school transport services to smaller villages.

Pego and Orba will serve as connections for passengers who need to change buses to reach their final destination.

And the service will join up with all the Marina Alta-Alicante railway stations on what is known as Line 9 – once this is back on track after lengthy repair works that have led to a bus replacement being thrown on for nearly two years.

Buses to and from Dénia will stop off at the train stations in La Xara, Gata de Gorgos, Teulada and Calpe.
