Hundreds enjoy beach volley classic
Gloomy clouds threatening rain all day did not stop Spain's longest-running 4x4 beach volleyball competition in La Cala Finestrat on Wednesday.
Despite the looming grey clouds on Wednesday morning, the annual beach volleyball tournament went ahead in La Cala Finestrat.
The event is actually the longest running 4x4 beach volleyball tournament in Spain.
Seven rectangular courts were marked out in the sand, nearest to the promenade, so as not to disrupt holidaymakers, enjoying the bank holiday, but seating was set up for those eager to spectate.
Each court was officiated by a referee – whistle at the ready, keeping a check of the score.
Many of those on the beach came up to watch and applaud, then later in the afternoon took part in a mass zumba session.
The teams of four, both male and female came from across the region, playing against one another in this 41st tournament.
254 participants registered for this 41st edition of the event, making up 52 teams from across Spain and also from Brazil, Argentina and France.
Competitors included Athens 2004 Olympic Games silver medallists Raul Mesa and Spanish champion Clara Lozano.
Matches began at 10.00 and the day finished at 22.00,
The men's category was won by the Hotel Golden team and the women's by Gesproma.
