Calpe continues landmark improvements
Facelift for emblematic Manzanera zone II to be completed in summer 2019
THE REDEVELOPMENT work at Manzanera zone II in Calpe commenced last week, and must be completed before the summer of 2019. The project, which involves a budget of €536,476, will complete the rejuvenation of the area, which ended its first phase in March of this year.
In this next stage, it consists of the replacement of drinking water supply and street lighting, the widening of pavements to comply with the accessibility law, forming pedestrian routes, the creation of pavements in streets that do not currently have them, asphalting of all the roads and the replacement of masonry walls.
In addition, the project includes the reconditioning of two existing green areas in this urbanisation with garden benches, trees, shaded areas, and signage throughout the area.
The work will improve one of the most unique enclaves of the town. La Manzanera was designed by the architect Ricardo Bofill in the 1970’s as a unique residential complex which integrated into the landscape.
“We continue to improve our developments, every corner of our town, to improve the quality of life of the Calpe residents. In this legislature, more than 15 million euros are being invested into infrastructures, whose sole objective is to turn Calpe into a better place to live.” said the mayor of Calpe, Cesar Sanchez.
Calpe council is working on the renovation of the urbanisation, but at the same time it is intended to recover the derelict social club, which is located at the bottom of the cliffs below. They also aim to regenerate the coastal front through the creation of a pedestrian walkway.
Steps are also being taken to approve the declaration of Cultural Interest (BIC) for the buildings Xanadú and Muralla Roja, both designed by Bofill.
