Benissa industrial estate undergoes facelift

- By Joe Pugh jpugh@cbnews

MODERNISATION works to the La Pedrera industrial estate in Benissa will commence on 5 November. The upgrades will be carried out under a project called 'Improvement, modernisation and provision of infrastructure and services in the industrial park La Pedrera of Benissa'. This is part of a grant programme offered by IVACE (Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness), which in turn belongs to the ministry of sustainable economy, trade and labour.

Several improvement plans are included to improve security, communications, energy savings, the image of the estate and road improvements. The grant amounts to €526,893.73, which will be divided into two annual payments. This year, €244,700.65 will be invested and in 2019, €282,193.07 will be awarded. The tender for the works has been awarded to the company SIEMA Infrastructures SL, who bid €520,300.

One of the plans is for the implementation of fibre optic broadband. This will include the creation of closed circuit television cameras interconnected with the local police, which it is hoped will expand the competitiveness and safety of the industrial area. The estate will also have improved road markings and signage. Panels will be installed with company names and their locations, and all road names will be clearly signed.

Public street lighting will also be renewed, through energy efficiency measures or renewable energies. All light bulbs will be replaced by efficient LEDs, generating significant savings. In addition, parking areas will be expanded, creating a space for trucks and large vehicles.

To facilitate the smooth running of business activities during the works, Benissa council met with business owners on Tuesday to discuss the programming for the plan, and how companies may be affected during the improvements.

“It is satisfying that these IVACE grants allow these investments to be made in a place not invested in for a long time. La Pedrera is such an important place in Benissa. It’s competitiveness and capacity to generate employment and investments will now be expanded.” said Xavi Tro, councillor for works and services.

No mention has been made however, of the serious accident blackspot on the N332 at the entrance to the estate, which would clearly benefit from a new roundabout or traffic light system.
