Orba Warblers Golf Society

- Wednesday October 24, Alicante Golf

The clubhouse at Alicante has taken on a new form, the bar area and restaurant have been completely updated and they have brought the outside inside with all the greenery, quite spectacular and the free coffee and toast is always welcome. More than that though the course was in excellent condition with a lot of work being carried out on the course to improve the overall experience of playing there.

The competition today was an ever popular “Medal” round and the the lowest net score was achieved by the player with the lowest gross score and the lowest handicap, an excellent 71 by Steve Smith placed him on top of division one, second place was taken by Steve Cliffe with 73 and in third was Michael Morley scoring 74, beating Mark Gaines on countback. On top of division two was a surprised Tony Dickinson with a score of 75, he was followed in by Arthur Sullivan who beat Paddy Kenmore on count-back both with 77.

The nearest the pin prizes went to Malcolm Monti on the 3rd and one of our guests, Mike Gant, on the 12th, Malcolm also secured his two as did David Brown and Michael Morley. There were two knock out matches played today and Steve Cliffe moves into the latter stages of the singles after beating Barbara Pollitt 3 & 2 and Mark Gaines with David Edwards beat Kevin Dugdale with Malcolm Robinson 3 & 2 to progress to the next round.

On Friday our Costa Blanca League team beat last year’s champions, French Connection, 6 - 2 at Galiana a terrific win.
