U3A Golf Moraira-Teulada

-

On the October 23 U3A Golf Moraira-Teulada played one of their regular games on the longer course, Levante, part of Villaitana Golf at Benidorm.

Our group has played this course many times and the consensus is that it is an excellent venue, both for its challenge and environment.

The holes are all individually constructed and very different. The only negative point is their ridiculous policy on buggies, only used on the paths or at 90 degrees to the fairways. Quite frankly it is better and quicker to walk but unfortunately some of our members are unable to do so. I would also urge Villaitana to make sure all agents know when this policy is in operation. At least then, the decision is with the players as whether to have the extra cost of buggies.

There is to be a Seniors competition on this course at the end of November and the course is already well prepared although we had to play off shorter tees (good for some). Any way we completed the round in just over 5 hours, a little longer than ideal.

The forecast for the day was clear but with a chance of rain. The temperature was comfortable although we did have a short burst of the wet stuff half way through the round.

All in all it was a good day for October and we hope we will continue to be so lucky. Our format for the day was the ever-popular team event, best 3 scores from 4 to count, all net of handicap. The teams were balanced with high and medium handicappers. In our team, some of the lads came in with four pointers. It certainly helps to have two extra shots on some holes!

There was a special competition for those able to keep the same ball all the way round. How did they do it?

The team scores were:

1st with a score of 130 points – Malcolm Thomas, Robin Woods, Jerry Arnold and Keith Simmonds

2nd with a score of 120 points – Mike Jones, Pat Jarvis and Toni Rowe (with one “ghost player”)

Nearest the Pins, winners were John Rhodes, Bob Cope, Bina Tomes and Dave Reynolds

Lost ball - Myers Logan (in his case no lost ball).

Congratulations to all our winners.

Our next game will be at the challenging championship course of El Saler on November 13, first tee 10.00. There are a few places still available.

To play for the society you first need to be a member of the U3A Moraira/Teulada, which meets on the first Monday of every month at the Salóns G.L, Avenida del Mediterráneo 32, Teulada at 10.30, except July and August.

All new members welcome whatever your standard of golf.
