Mega budget for Calpe

New projects included in €39million spending plans for 2019

CALPE council has initially approved the spending budgets for 2019, amounting to €39,086,050.

The mayor of Calpe, Cesar Sanchez, described the budgets, in which the expenses and income are level as 'realistic, sensible and social', and in which, in addition to continuing with investment­s of projects initiated in previous years, 'a response will be given to new needs'.

One of the main new items contemplat­ed in the budget is the real estate tax bonus for retired people for pensioners under 65 years of age and people in situations of longterm unemployme­nt who are at risk of social exclusion. These may qualify for a bonus of up to €300. For these grants, an initial amount of €100,000 has been forecast.

Among other new investment­s is the creation of a new sports space in the area behind the Domingo Crespo Pavilion, for which €200,000 will be allocated. It will include a skating rink and roller hockey pitch, as well as a skate park, increasing the diversity of sports on offer in Calpe.

The budget also provides for the creation of a play room, to be undertaken in 2019-2020 and which aims to ease family life. For the next year an initial amount of €70,000 euros is planned.

A parking area with more than 500 spaces will be adapted in Pla de la Senieta that will connect with a future ring road. An amount of €280,000 euros has been allocated for this.

As for the projects that will have continuity in 2019, there is the revitalisa­tion of the Manzanera area, the lighting and asphalting plan of the urban- isations, the 4th and 5th phase of the music band building, the 5th phase of the cemetery extension and a new section of road. It will also continue with the adaptation of the parking area of the old town which will allow the creation of 100 new spaces.

Likewise, all subsidies to local associatio­ns and aid to transport and/or school material are maintained.

In the council session, an amendment of the political group of Compromís was approved. This allowed for an amount earmarked for the first time this year for the maintenanc­e and conservati­on of the Los Baños de la Reina, and the budget was increased from €20,000 to €30,000.
