Moraira honour adoptive daughter

A WOMAN dedicated to serving her town, Ernestina Bru, known as Tina, was named as an honorary adoptive daughter of Teulada Moraira last week. The Mayor, Carlos Linares, granted her the status during a ceremony at the town hall.

The appointment of adoptive daughter was granted to Tina due to her services performed for the community throughout the years and for the commitment she has always had with its residents. It is an effort she combines with her local business, selling newspapers, stationery, haberdashery and perfumes.

Her business is linked in many ways to the relationship she has had with activities of a social nature and with associations of the town, among which is the Neighbourhood Board Cap d'Or of Moraira, the Brotherhood of the Christ of Moraira, the Association of Housewives and Consumers of Moraira and the Cor La Senieta.

In addition, she has been the delegate of the Church-Chapel of Moraira, has been part of the Teulada Moraira Red Cross and has been a member of Cáritas Parroquia Moraira.

Concha Bru, Tina's sister, stated that one of Tina’s requests was that people ''commit themselves, be supportive, be generous, fight for social rights, for a quality of life and for a cohesion among neighbours'. In short, to do what Tina herself has been doing for a long time.

On the same day, Linares inaugurated a street - Calle Mestre Mariano Bru Martínez - dedicated to their father. He was teacher and owner of the school ‘Orientacion Maritima y Pesquera Moraira’. The street is located close to the CEIP Cap d’Or where the official plaque in honour of his profession will be installed. Concha thanked her father, saying “Thank you dad for everything you did, not only at the school, but in the community.”

The day was full of emotions and feelings for both Ernestina Bru and her family. A ceremony which was full of acquaintances and friends of Tina, who arrived to live with her family in Moraira when she was fifteen years of age.
