- By James Parkes and Dave Jones

A MARRIED couple living in Alfaz del Pi, who own two sex clubs, have been arrested by National Police accused of sexually exploiting several women

Officers released three victims of the human trafficking ring and seized €90,000 and £2,790 in cash, as well as many valuable items of jewellery, at the luxury villa owned by the couple.

A third person has also been arrested.

Police investigations began back in February last year, when officers were warned about a sex trade trafficking ring that enticed young women in from Libya to Nigeria and smuggled them into Europe via Italy and finally to sex clubs in Spain.

Once in Benidorm, the women were told they had a huge debt with the criminal organisation that they had to pay off by working at sex clubs. Two of the clubs - one in Benidorm and one in Alfaz del Pi - were owned by the couple now behind bars.

The exploited women were isolated, mainly due to the language barrier and were left in a very vulnerable condition at the mercy of the ring and the club owners.

Officers found evidence in the villa search of black-book accounts and proof that the couple were largely profiting from the forced prostitution of the sex exploitation ring victims hence being accomplice crimes.

The couple are also alleged to have laundered the illegal gaining through a network of companies.
