Marching against cancer
La Nucia
Last Sunday, February 10 thousands took to the streets in supposrt of the fight against cáncer by joining the solidarity march in La Nucia.
Over 4,500 people took part in this annual ‘Walk Against Cancer’, the 10th year for La Nucia.
Th event was organised by the AECC (the national Spanish charity against cancer) in collaboration with Anémona (a self-help group for women with breast cancer).
Age was no barrier and people from all walks of life young and old joined the 5km route that started at the Camilo Cano sports centre ending at the CEM environmental centrein El Capitvador. The Sonats Batukada band brought music and rhythm starting the walk with people in short sleeves as it was a beautiful sunny warm day, unlike past years where the rain and cold prevailed.
With a raffle taking place at the end of the walk and 113 local businesses donating 220 prizes, a total of €6, 968 was raised which will be split between the two aforementioned cancer charities.
Callosa march for Cancer
Callosa d’en Sarrià was one of many towns across the region that marked World Cancer Day with a solidarity march last Sunday that set off from the Plaza del Convent and weaved through the streets of the town. Hundreds came out in support of the towns fourth such event, organised by the town hall in collaboration with two cancer charities - Aspanion and Anemone. The mayor Josep Saval headed the march together with Councilor for Health Estela Menaches, opposition councillors and representatives of the two charities.
