Jail term for body ‘chopper’
Accused and killer used a saw to dismember Torrevieja dad
A COLOMBIAN woman has been handed a seven-year jail sentence for her part in cutting up the body of a 62-year-old father-of-two in Torrevieja three years ago and dumping the remains in rubbish containers around the town.
A judgment sent to Costa Blanca News by the Regional Supreme Court (TSJ) notes that the 46-year-old defendant had acted as a carer for the mother of the alleged killer and cleaned the home that the pensioner shared with her son.
A TSJ spokeswoman explained that the man accused of killing the victim had died in prison days before the trial started in Elche earlier this month.
The judgment explains that the events related to the case started on August 26, 2016.
It notes that the victim and his alleged killer got into an argument over parking spaces in the communal garage of their apartment building
The disagreement escalated when the alleged killer went to the victim’s apartment to continue the discussion.
According to the judgment, the attacker hit the victim with a ‘large object’, which knocked him out.
The Colombian woman and the attacker then decided that they would steal money from the victim, who they had tied up.
Using his Samsung smartphone, they were able to transfer €800 from his bank into an account held by the defendant.
According to the judgment, the neighbour killed the victim a couple of days later, on a date which has not been established.
The carer then helped him to cut up the body using a manual saw.
They dumped the body parts in rubbish containers around Torrevieja, then cleaned the house and painted the walls to cover bloodstains.
As reported in Costa Blanca News back in 2016, the body parts were found several days later in the rubbish transfer station run by Urbaser in Elche.
The victim’s head was discovered first by an employee on August 31.
Following an extensive search, his legs and a bag containing his internal organs were found on September 2.
On September 12 the partners in crime asked for a €2,400 loan from the victim’s bank but this was turned down.
It was not until November 24 that the victim’s two children reported his disappearance to the police.
According to the TSJ spokeswoman, the 46-year-old Colombian woman admitted her involvement in the crime and accepted the seven-year jail term proposed by the prosecution service.
The court considered it proven that she had helped to illegally detain the victim, defraud him and cover up the killing.
