Alfaz Fantasy Football League

- Week 31

The Premier League fixtures were all over the place last week which helped to give the Alfaz Fantasy Football League a high scoring week with the average score reaching 34 points.

The one Monday night game, four mid-week games, a Friday night game, five Premier games at the weekend and throw in two F.A. Cup semi-finals gave the A.F.F.L. a total of 38 goals, 7 clean sheets, 46 yellow cards and 1 red one which was Manchester United's Ashley Young who became referee Mike Dean's 10th player he has dismissed this season. With the final weekend looming large on the horizon we have a new leader at the top of the Alfaz Fantasy Football League, Linda's Team Tapas took over the summit from John's team Wee Aggies who had been top of the league for the last 23 weeks and at one time led the league by a massive 70 points and they now trail Team Tapas by 6 points.

Andrew's Team Ballers returned to the top 3 after clocking up 70 points thanks to Manchester City's Laporte who scored 15 of them.

At the other end of the table, the Wooden Spoon is on the way to Gary's Upside Team who are now 79 points behind Dunkrat.

In our Junior League William and Henry have taken a strong grip at the top and have extended their advantage to 43 points over young Olly's team Olly F.C. Former leaders of this section Ginger Ninjar have slipped down to 4th. Down in the basement Fleetwood Gian had a good week bagging 47 points but they still have a lot to do to catch Tom's Real City, the gap a formidible 43 points.

Linda's Team Tapas have opened up a large gap at the top of our Mark Carter Ladies Section by stepping on the gas and moving 50 points in front of Barbra's XI. Pauline's Vodka Army remain in third spot and are likely to stay there. Two teams are sharing the burden of holding everybody else up at the bottom and they are Kim's Ginger United and Liz's Cookies Crew. Both are just 5 points behind Sandra's Brazilian Hooligans.

Kevin's Two for the Road have maintained their place at the Summit of our Across the Costa's Golden Boot League and have in fact moved 16 points ahead of former leaders Bill's East Fifers who seem to have gone backwards in the last few weeks. Kenny's Albir Boro Army Utd have managed to hold on to the coatails of the frontrunners and are still well in contention in 3rd place. Gary's Upside Team have replaced Rachel's Blue Murder at the bottom and are only 7 points adrift of Leo's Power Blueboys.

Well it has finally happened, Pauline's Vodka Army have been knocked off the top of our Champion of Champions League by Joe's Keith Lard F.C. who have now taken a very fragile 3 point lead. There is also another change at the bottom with Leo's Power Blueboys taking over from Dave's team The Hatters who got his top score of the season with a tally of 58 points which lifted him off the bottom spot and leave Leo's team 7 points away.

I can't see Jimmy's Nick's Blues not winning our F.A.Cup League as 10 of his team are all Manchester City Players whereas 2nd placed Liz's Cookies Crew 61 have only got 7 Manchester City Players. Not many Watford Players have been selected so it seems Jimmy's team will win this section.

At the other end two teams will have to share the Wooden Spoon as Tommy's Quantrill's Raiders and Dave's The Liverpool Way have both finished on 3 points.

73 points was the maximum score this week by William & Henry which is one of our junior teams. His key players were Manchester City's Laporte and Wolves Jimenez who both scored 15 points this week. The lowest scoring team was Kim's Ginger United with 2 points to their name. Both teams will go into the hat for our monthly wine draw. The February winner was Kevin's team Mason United. (Cheers Kev!)

Manager of the month for April is being kindly sponsored by the Arlequin in Albir who do a fine selection of Pizzas as well as other fine dishes. With one week gone William and Henry have taken an early 2 point lead over Steve's team Flying Pigs XI.

Right behind them by only 1 point is Andrew's Ballers and Jimmy's Nick's Blues. There is plenty of teams in the running for this super meal for 2 at the Arlequin.

The draw for the quarter finals of our K.O. Cup competition is now up on our website and will take place this weekend April 13 - 14. The favourites have once again steered clear of one another with Darren's King Carrakop 023 up against Macca's Albir Villains who knocked out my Full Metal Jackets in the last round. Adam's team Equipo Sin Hombre will play 123rd placed aptly named could it be. While in the other 2 ties our last women standing Sharon's team Rovers and Out take on Nathan's team The Boys Special. Our lowest ranked team Henry's Heroes (153rd) are looking for an upset against Martin's Marauders. If any tie finishes level the replay will be the following week. Good luck to all the teams left in this great competition.

Games will be coming thick and fast as we head towards the end of another exciting season so it's important to follow your team’s progress in the final run in by logging on to our very popular website.
