Eddie's Final Whistle

- By Eddie Cagigao

2B Division, Group 3

Villarreal B were the only side from the top four to win their game at the weekend, a series of results that allows them to reclaim second spot in the group with 55 points – four points behind the league leaders, Atletico Baleares who could only draw their away game at CD Teruel. UE Cornella, who also drew their match at the weekend, are in third position with 54 points, the same points tally as Hercules who were held to a home draw by CD Alcoyano. Lleida Esportiu, in fifth place with 51 points, are battling to stay in touch with the top four having lost their home game last week. At the bottom of the table, Ontinyent will finish the season bottom and all their remaining fixtures will be given as a 1-0 defeat having stopped all footballing activities at this level due to their debts which are said to be close to 1 million euros. Ontinyent will end the season with 32 points, the same point’s tally that CD Alcoyano have right now. One place above Alcoyano are Sabadell, Conquense and CD Castellon who all have 33 points. Valencia Mestalla are in 15th position and out of the relegation zone, with 37 points. Match day April 32 – 7 CD Castellon 1 – 1 UE Olot

Castellon missed another great opportunity to climb away from the relegation places despite taking the lead in the 46th minute of this game. However, as they have done on too many occasions this season, they allowed their opponents back into the game and had to settle for a share of the points and their 18th draw from their 33 matches played.

After this result, CD Castellon are in 16th position with 33 points. Hercules CF 0 – 0 CD Alcoyano

Hercules missed another opportunity to climb nearer the leaders as they were held to a goalless draw by struggling side CD Alcoyano. The draw does keep Hercules in the top four which would put them into the end of season Play Off matches. For Alcoyano, who remain one place off the bottom of the table, this draw does nothing to ease their relegation fear. Valencia CF Mestalla 0 – 1 CF Peralada

After going on a good run in their last few matches, a run of results that has enabled Valencia Mestalla to climb out of the automatic relegation places, this defeat was especially hard to take as it was against one of their season long rivals in the relegation zone.

The only goal of the game arrived in the 82nd minute and

with Mestalla playing with 10 men after midfield player Miki Muñoz was send off in the 62nd minute. The defeat leaves Mestalla just above the relegation zone on 37 points – four points and one place above the relegation places. Atletico Levante UD 1 – 1 UB Conquense

This draw means that Atletico Levante are seven matches without defeat and with 45 points to their name, confirms another season at this level for the Levante reserve side, something they have achieved against all the expert opinions in pre-season when they were favourites to be relegated. This point leaves them in 9th place in the table. CD Ebro 1 – 0 Ontinyent CF

Having resigned from the league 10 days ago, all the remaining matches involving Ontinyent CF will be 1 one goal defeat. RCD Español B 0 – 1 Villarreal CF B

An excellent three points for the Villarreal reserve side who scored an early goal and had to defend very well to take all the points. Goalkeeper Joan saving a second half penalty as the home side piled on the pressure. But held on they did and the win and resulting three points, move Villarreal up into second place with 55 points, four points behind the leaders.

3rd Division

No change at the top as both the top two sides won at the weekend whilst 3rd placed Atletico Saguntino suffered their sixth defeat of the season, but stay in 3rd place.

Orihuela are top with 70 points with La Nucia one place behind them with 63 points. Atletico Saguntino lost away at Novelda but retain their 3rd spot with 58 points. The final Play Off place (4th position) is held by Olimpic Xativa who appear to have overcome their dip in form and are looking good again. Olimpic have 57 points and are three points above Crevillente Deportivo in fifth position. Although not yet automatically relegated, it will be a miracle should the bottom club in this group, Paiporta CF, not get relegated. They have 18 points and with just six matches left to play, are 12 points away from a safety place as it currently stands. One place above them are Torre Levante with 28 points whilst Rayo Ibense on 29 points are also in the relegation places although both CD Acero (30 points) and Elche Ilicitano (31 points) are far from safe. Regional Preferente Groups

Group 1 The top three in this group have opened a gap on the chasing pack and look good to end the season in the Play Off places. UD Puzol are top with 62 points with CD Burriana in second place on 58 points. Third position is occupied by CD Onda who have 56 points despite only managing a home draw against fifth placed CD Cabanes. CF Borriol were relegated a few weeks ago but their season of woe continues after another heavy defeat last weekend. They are bottom of this group with just two points from their 29 matches played and are the only side in all four groups at this level yet to win a single match. CF Sant Jordi are one of the bottom on 17 points whilst Alqueries CF, on 25 points are the only side in the relegation places still capable of escaping as just three points separate them from Club Almenara in the first of the safety places.

I should also mention that the match last weekend between CF San Pedro and CF Albuixech was suspended by the match official after just 13 minutes of open play after the official feared for his safety after he had sent a San Pedro player off. They are currently at the top of the group and have 73 points. CD Utiel are in second place with 60 points with Ribarroja in third place on 58 points. Torrent CF in fourth place with 57 points, are the only other side in the group with a realistic chance of catching any of the top three.

CD Serranos, at the foot of the table, lost for the 24th time this season and are automatically relegated back to 1st regional division. Having been promoted two seasons ago, they got relegated at the first attempt only to bounce back up at the end of last season with the hope of staying in this level. However, that has not been the case and their season long fight against relegation has been lost. Serranos have 11 points with the side above them, US Castellar on 21 points. The final relegation place in this group is occupied by Mislata with 27 points. Match day April 29 – 7 CD San Marcelino 1 – 1 Alcasser CF

Group 3

The top two in this group, Castellonense and CD Denia, more or less confirmed their place in the end of season Play Offs´ after their victories at the weekend. Castellonense are top with 61 points with CD Denia in second spot on 60 points. UD Beniganim stay in third position, the final Play Off place, despite their fourth defeat of the season. Beniganim are on 55 points and three points above both CD Javea and CF UE Tavernes, who both have 52 points.

At the foot of the table, CF Gandia lost for the 18th time this season and are at the bottom of the table with 16 points. One place above them are CD Monte-Sion with 22 points whilst CD Contestano occupy the final relegation position (16th place) with 24 points. Match day April 29 – 7

Group 4

As has been the case from the start of the season, Intercity San Juan are still at the top of the group. However, their recent form has been somewhat indifferent and they have lost a few matches, including last weekend when they were beaten away at Villajoyosa. Intercity are, despite this latest defeat, still top of the league with 68 points but their lead at the top has been cut to five points as Hercules, in second place, are on 63 points with Villajoyosa now in third position with 60 points. Independiente Alicante are on 59 points and one place outside the Play Off places following their 6-1 thrashing of Universidad Alicante. Realistically, the only other side who can now have a say about who will go into the end of season Play Off matches in Almoradi, in fifth position with 56 points.

At the bottom of the table it is really starting to heat up. Villena CF, at the foot of the table, took all three points against Benidorm and are now on 17 points, one point behind CD Torrevieja who are on 18 points. Aspe UD are in 16th position, the final relegation spot, with 20 points with Benidorm CD just one place and one point above them. Three from these four sides will get relegated at the end of the season as the teams above them appear to be safe.
